Why attend?
Participants will have a chance to focus on scientific microscopy questions
Develop solid background on certain techniques through seminars and side
group discussions.
Participants will use state-of-the-art advanced microscopy instrumentations
Learn basics of image processing using microscopy software
Obtain and interpret images of high quality
Understand the importance of qualitative and quantitative data analysis.
Workshop materials will be provided for each theoretical and practical
session.
Who should attend? The workshop is designed primarily for researchers and postgraduate students working in universities, research institutions. Physicians and postdoctoral trainees in various colleges are also encouraged to attend. Additionally, local and international material science and biology users are highly recommended to take advantage of the workshop.
Attendance:
Certificate of attendance will be issued by the EMU to participants upon
completion of both theoretical and practical session of the workshop.

The Electron Microscopy Unit (EMU), at Kuwait University is sponsoring an advanced course on Laser Confocal Microscopy, Atomic Force Microscopy and High Resolution Transmission Electron Microscopy.
Objective: The main objective of the first workshop on Advanced Microscopy held in the State of Kuwait at the Electron Microscopy Unit (EMU) is to create an intellectual research environment with microscopy techniques enabling researchers to grasp basic microscopy knowledge necessary for solving scientific problems.
Workshop duration: The 5-Days intensive workshop will consist of basic knowledge and hands-on practice on advanced microscopy techniques. With a maximum enrolment of 40 participants, there will be a great opportunity for attendees to develop skills on sample preparation and imaging processing of various samples.
Workshop Main Theme: The workshop will include a series of lectures on basic theory of a wide range of microscopy instrumentation of the workshop. These include Laser Confocal Microscopy (LCM), Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) and High Resolution Transmission Electron Microscopy (HRTEM). Current advances and development in microscopy techniques as well as its various applications to both material science and biology users will be addressed by well experienced local and international expertise. In addition, laboratory sessions will be assigned for each microscopy technique as to enable participants gain hand skills on sample preparation and image processing software. This workshop focus on the addressing advanced microscopy research problems where attendees have great opportunity to work with various state-of-the-art microscopes. Participants are encouraged, therefore, to bring their own samples to evaluate them during the course of the workshop. Workshop participants will closely interact with EMU technicians operating modern research microscopes.
